“Individuals from the same population tend to be genetically similar”
Map of kinship

Genes and human history
From a genetic point of view we are all unique, but some individuals are more similar than others. Generally speaking, genetic differences reflect geography. People from the same geographic area tend to be more genetically similar than people from distant parts of the world.

The world map of kinship
We use a powerful statistical method to analyse your genome along with those of over 1000 individuals from all over the world. Several hidden genetic patterns are revealed that can explored in detail in our Map of Kinship tool. These genetic patterns reflect the history of human migration from the earliest times to the present.

Where do you belong?
People from the same population tend to form tight clusters on the map of kinship. Likewise, populations from the same regions of the world also tend to cluster together on the map. Your position on the map tells you how closely related you are to the individuals and populations that are shown. You can even see where your deCODEme friends land on your map of kinship.
