Over the past decade, we at deCODE have analyzed the genomes of hundreds of thousands of people - more than any other research organization in the world. Through deCODEme we are putting this
expertise to work for you. We will analyze your genetic information, store it securely and provide you with updates on your genetic profile as new knowledge becomes available in the field.
Importantly, your data is analyzed and stored at deCODE, not outsourced, so that we can guarantee you the same high standard of data generation, analysis and privacy protection that we use in our own research.
what deCODEme is not
We wish to emphasize that deCODEme is not a clinical service to be used as the basis for making medical decisions. While the Genome Scan includes genetic variants that have been linked in our own and others' research to risk of certain diseases, we believe that individuals interested in utilizing such information for making healthcare decisions should do so in the context of clinical diagnostic tests. deCODE offers such tests for many of the variants it has discovered, that are ordered with the authorization of a physician, may be reimbursable by healthcare providers, and are accompanied by appropriate genetic counseling. deCODEme subscribers may be eligible for discounts on such tests, and we encourage those who may be interested in them to go to our diagnostics website. For the same reason, the deCODEme Genetic Scan does not include genetic variants that have been shown to cause purely genetic diseases or indicate a near certainty of developing any diseases.we are serious about privacy
At deCODE, we believe that genetic information is both personal and private. The only people who should be able to see your genetic information are you and those with whom you choose to share it.
That's why you have total control over access to your deCODEme account. Furthermore, at deCODEme, you can choose your user name at will and you are in full control of how much or how little personal information you want to store in your account.
