Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer affecting women worldwide, and it is the most common cause of cancer death in women. A number of genetic variants have been identified that significantly impact the risk of developing breast cancer.

deCODEme can calculate your genetic risk for Breast Cancer.

Here´s how it works!

deCODEme calculates your genetic risk of breast cancer

The deCODEme breast cancer test focuses primarily on identifying the common genetic risk variants associated with breast cancer, accounting for about 90% of breast cancer cases. The deCODEme Complete Scan and the deCODEme Cancer Scan identify eleven common genetic variants and provide interpretation of their associated risk for developing breast cancer in individuals of European descent (see scientific details).

For individuals of East-Asian descent the deCODEme Genetic Scans calculate genetic risk associated with the five variants validated in this population. At the present time no risk estimation data are available for people of other ethnicities for the variants mentioned.

The deCODEme genetic test for breast cancer is a risk test

It is important to understand that the deCODEme genetic test for breast cancer is a risk test. As such, it tells you how your personal genetics compares to the genetics of large numbers of people in studies of the genetics of breast cancer. The deCODEme genetic scan is not a diagnostic test, in that it will not tell you whether you already have breast cancer, nor can it tell you whether you will, or will not, develop breast cancer in the future. What the deCODEme genetic test can do, is help you determine your life-time risk of developing breast cancer, compared to the average risk within the population to which you belong (for example compared to other males, females, age groups, ethnic groups).
